Hot, Hot, Hot

Well, it’s 5 something am, and i have maybe slept 3 hours.  The 5th floor, downtown apartment we rented does not have air-conditioning!  How did this happen with 4 months of research!?  It is hot, and  it’s loud with the all night World Cup celebrating.  I am enjoying Spain, but looking forward to Paris where we can unpack our suitcases and settle in for a bit. (Can you tell it’s MY turn to be tired and cranky?)
This morning, Dillon, Mali and I were up at 5:30 and I woke Dave and Hayley up at 8:30.  One of these days our sleep schedules will be in sync!  Since we weren’t able to reserve tickets on the train until noon, we decided to explore a bit.  We took the kids up to the Plaza Mayor where they saw some street performers and had their first “churros con chocolate” experience.  Needless to say, everyone loved them!  We headed over the Puerta del Sol and then off to the train.  We took the AVE to Toledo, not realizing until we got on that this was the kids’ first train ride!
Dillon was the most excited about the day.  He has been dreaming of going to Toledo for four years – ever since I went and told him all about it.  When we reached the city, it was 90 degrees!  We wandered around awhile trying to figure out the the best way to see the city.  We decided to take the tourist bus.  It mainly drove us around the outside of the city since the streets far too small to fit a bus.  It was so beautiful to see the city from that perspective, though.  When we returned, we went to the cathedral.  It was incredible.  Dave took the audio tour, so I need to have him add the details.
We were all starving, so I hunted down the restaurant that Lisa and I loved when we were last here.  I found it, yay!  We sat outside under umbrellas and watched the Portugal/Brazil match with several others.
After lunch, we fulfilled Dillon’s dream of purchasing a weapon in Toledo.  He had been asking ever since he woke up this morning.  :) We toured around a bit more, then headed back on to the train station.  The station in Toledo is so beautiful!  It is a work of art itself.
We came home, hit the grocery store, and then watched the Spain/Chile match.  It was so much fun to be here for this game.  The whole neighborhood was screaming, shouting, honking horns, etc.   We loved it.
By the time the game was over, we were all begging to go to bed!  It will be interesting to see if anyone was able to sleep last night with all of the partying and the baking in the oven that is our apartment. :)
