Thursday was a rainy day, so we went with the rainy day plan of the Deutsches Museum. Everyone was up and ready quite quickly – it was great! The line at the museum was about an hour long but seemed to move fast and once we got in, the crowds spread out .
We started out in the Design and Technology section. We saw windmills, steam engines, and how engines evolved through time. We went downstairs and learned about the process of sewage treatment. Sounds gross, but it was SO interesting to me. I have always wondered what happens to all of that “stuff”. There was a room of children’s drawings depicting their ideas of how to save the earth. They were beautiful and so creative.
We saw some super cool old cars. My favorite was the bubble car (see photo below). It is a little 3-wheeler. The windshield/front hood is the door to enter the car. It has a cute little jumpseat for the kids in the back. We also saw some awesome airplanes. They have a cross-section view of a Lufthansa airplane. It was really cool!
Next, we went to the nanotechnology section – also super interesting! Dave loved the interactive goat and we all learned a lot from the interactive screens with the displays.
I wanted to see the Textile Technology, so Hayley, Dave and I went up there, while Mali and Dill went to Astronomics section and Toy Technology. I really enjoyed learning about the history of fabrics and textiles as well as seeing how they are made now. So interesting!
After a few hours, the kids burned out, so I offered to take them home while Dave stayed on to see the mining section. He LOVED it and I was bummed that I missed it when he told us about it.
We decided to go out to our Mexican Restaurant again. We came prepared with our water bottle tonight. :) It was a really fun dinner, just being silly, laughing and hanging out with the family.
I got a bit of sad news, so Dave and I went for a walk. in the rain. I love walking around together. It was been THE BEST being together all summer long. This is what I will really miss when we go back. Just being with my family all day and night – especially Dave since he is usually gone most of the day.
Love this family!
This train station reminds us of 2001 – A Space Odyssey
