I Can See For Miles

Today we got up and got ready pretty quickly. We went in search of crepes. There were a couple of of spots written up in our book, but they didn’t come through. Finally we found a place, but the service took FOREVER. So, we were off to a late start again.
<I must mention here how nice it has been to have a car! We have full control over when we leave, when we stop, and we can drive directly to our destination. The funny thing about driving it though, is that since we are driving so far out of the city, we only get 2 radio stations. These two stations played the same 5 songs over and over all day long. It became a huge joke and we could almost predict which song would be next by the end of the trip.>
We got to drive through the beautiful countryside again on our way to Mont St. Michel. The approach was amazing. It is set off in the distance, standing alone in the English channel. It looks fake, all there buy itself. It got more magnificent the closer we got to it. We got out of the car and joined the hundreds of other people that were enjoying St Michel. It was a beautiful place. We walked up through the street that lead to the abbey at the top. The street was PACKED with people – solid. It was really funny because we were freezing cold walking on the road that led to it, but once we got through the gates, there were so many people, that we were warm again.
We got up to the abbey and toured through it. Of course, it was really beautiful. It was much simpler than all of the other chapels and cathedrals we have seen. The cloister garden was our favorite part. The views from the top were amazing. Even on this partly cloudy day, we could see what seemed like forever in all directions. We were SO glad that we made the huge trek out there to see such a unique sight.
We hiked back down the crazy crowded road. We went to lunch and the grocery store to stock up for our road trip back. It was a smooth drive home. When we approached the city, our GPS directed us right to the Arc de Triomphe!! It was soo cool to drive in through the metal arch, and up to the Arc, but we were all TERRIFIED to enter the round-a-bout. Hayley, Dillon and I had watched cars try to maneuver through it for a long time last time we were up on the Arc, so we knew how crazy it was going to be. It was stressful, but our excellent driver, Dave, did awesome. We then got to drive down the Champs-Élysées, which was pretty awesome, yet scary because of the drivers around us. :)
We got our rental car returned without too much trouble. We were supposed to go to the movies with the Sauers tonight, but just got home far too late. So, we made some dinner, did some laundry, unpacked, and relaxed. As always, it was really good to be home. :)
